International Youth March this Summer to Address Climate Change
Posted by Andrew Kung on June 15, 2011

Madera Group is working closely with Alec Loorz and the organization he founded, iMatter March, to raise awareness about the growing climate crisis. When he was 13, he watched Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth, and has been passionately and actively tackling the issue of global warming ever since. Alec co-founded Kids vs. Global Warming with his mother Victoria Loorz, and subsequently has organized over 100 youth led marches in 25 different countries since Mother’s Day.
The young people of today are realizing the long-lasting effects of climate change and consequently taking action in their local communities, schools, and college campuses. They realize how future generations will suffer most from global climate change and thus have strongly advocated for local and federal legislative and legal changes.
Madera Group Founder and Principal, Kath Delaney, was the project coordinator for the San Francisco iMatter March. The march in San Francisco brought together several hundred students, teachers, and parents from across the bay area.
The special guests that attended the event included: Alec Loorz, Youth Founder of iMatter March; Ted Turner, CNN Founder and iMatter advocate; Victoria Loorz, Co-Founder of Kids vs. Global Warming; Annie Leonard, Co-Director of The Story of Stuff Project; Mark Hertsgaard, Author of HOT: Living Through the Next Fifty Years on Earth; AshEl Eldridge, Educator, Spoken word and Rap Artist.
