Berkeley Unified School District Communications Study

Posted by Andrew Kung on June 20, 2011

Madera Group has been working in collaboration with the Berkeley Unified School District over the last few months to review current district wide communications and begin to suggest the most relevant, best practices for the district’s communications. Superintendent William Huyett formalized a Communications Working Group that partnered with Madera Group to implement a three month communications campaign. The campaign took Madera Group into the community and several school sites to learn about current communications practices.

Madera Group participated in ten Berkeley Unified Open Forums with parents, teachers, parent organizations, and student leaders to learn firsthand the community suggestions for the best way to improve communications between the district office, schools, students, and parents. Madera Group and the Communications Working Group engaged with at least 150 members of the Berkeley Unified community and conducted one-on-one phone interviews with school board members and community leaders within the district.

Madera Group’s final Berkeley Unified Communications Study: Discovery and Strategic Recommendations will be presented to the Berkeley Unified Board of Education on Wednesday, July 6, 2011. The final report will be posted to the Berkeley Unified School District website later this summer; if you are interested in viewing the final report, please write to Kath Delaney at kdelaney@maderagroup.net.
